Up till now, it's only been whispers...suggested hints at a second Jonas Brother taking the solo route (but, of course, not at the expense of his family members), and it is now officially confirmed: Joe Jonas is expected to make his solo bow in mid 2011.
This should come as little surprise to anyone who remotely enjoy the JoBros music. Nick (see Nick Jonas & the Administration) seems to be the musical prodigy but one look at a live performance by the Jonai and you'll quickly see that Joe is the one to watch. The middle brother has been branded the front man since their "Year 3000" days of yore, strutting around in a variety of day-glo apparal, headbands and Ray-Bans a la a modern day Mick Jagger or Steven Tyler. Yeah, I just said that. I mean it, too.
My eyes have always been drawn to Joe, because let's face it -- the boy is kind of attractive. Add to the fact that he seems to be the most "dangerous" Jonas, flitting about from girl to girl (from AJ Michalka to Taylor Swift to Camilla Belle to Demi Lovato to Ashley Greene...my head is spinning) and has been on the grind playing various versions of himself in a smattering of cable TV acting roles. He's not just barely legal (Nick) or married (Kevin). Joe knows how to play the entertainment game, and he wants it all. It was only a matter of time until we heard word of the inevitable solo album.
My ears immediately perked up upon any mention of this subject, but I was practically salivating when word started to filter out that Joe wanted to go into a more electropop kind of sound. I give these boys credit -- they know where the money is, but they also aren't afraid of experimenting. Nick remains to be the true musician of the band of brothers, but Joe's voice has grown by leaps and bounds, showing a supreme maturity on their most recent album, Lines, Vines and Trying Times (2009), in comparison to their flegling days of It's About Time (oh yeah, I'm a OJD-afflected, you didn't know?).
Details of Joe's solo project still remain shrouded in Hollywood Records secrecy, but I'm proud -- and honestly, surprised -- that when Joe says "electropop", he means it. There's talks that there were recording sessions with Frankmusik and is hoping for a conceptual, "sexier" record, along the lines of Justin Timberlake's breakthrough FutureSex/LoveSounds.
Oh yes, I'm excited.
