I don't know if Amazon was just on crack the day I checked or what, but it turns out the Soundtrack listing for the film "Confessions of a Shopaholic" is still chock full of pop tunes, but is completely different than what I previously reported.
The biggest difference is the song "Bad Girl", newsworthily noted to be done by Rihanna featuring Chris Brown is now listed on the soundtrack as by The Pussycat Dolls. I had heard a version that I assumed was a demo track done by PCD and when I heard Rihanna's version, it just felt right. She breathed fierceness into it. I'm kinda let down. I'm not deleting her version. This Shopaholic is Confessing she wants her Rihanna back. Even in Chris's "rap" verse, he says "She a Shopaholic." ...I'm so confused!!!
:::Sigh::: But I suppose I'll give those filthy broads in PCD another chance. I do really like "Top of the World" and "I Hate This Part".
The new cut of the soundtrack also features Kat DeLuna's killer new single "Unstoppable" (plus another cut, "Calling You") and continues to provide the first real offering from MySpace princess Jordyn Taylor with "Accessory". It also premieres two solo cuts ("Uncontrollable" and "Big Spender"...and no, it's not a cover) by Adrienne Bailon, former 3LW/Cheetah Girls member, current media whore on that "Keeping Up With the Kardasians" show by "accidentally" letting pictures leak of her naked body. But I won't hate on Adrienne. Girlfriend can sing, and was the only real plausible sanger in either of her former groups.
The random cut by Macy Gray (hello irrelevancy) and some guy doing "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" for some reason still made the cut. Huh? As a piano ballad? What?
The new and confirmed soundtrack listing is as follows:
1. Jordyn Taylor "Accessory"
2. Lady Gaga "Fashion"
3. Jessie James "Blue Jeans"
4. Adrienne Bailon "Uncontrollable"
5. Kat DeLuna "Calling You"
6. Akon "Stuck With Each Other (feat. Shontelle)"
7. Kat DeLuna "Unstoppable"
8. Adrienne Bailon "Big Spender"
9. Pussycat Dolls "Bad Girl"
10. Natasha Bedingfield "Again"
11. Trey Songz "Takes Time To Love"
12. Greg Laswell "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"
13. Macy Gray "Don't Forget Me"
14. James Newton Howard "Shopaholic Suite"
The Trey Songz track was originally listed to be done by Chris Brown on the first version of this soundtrack, and Adrienne's "Big Spender" was originally supposed to be done by Girlicious. I dunno what's up with all the replacements. We'll see how it all pans out, and maybe we can play a who-did-it-better game. We often say, "I can totally see (insert popstar's name here) doing this song, and doing it better," and now we can possibly really see the demo staging of new music! :)
[EDIT] I've heard the soundtrack now in full, and there are very few clunkers. Even the expected slow cover of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" is tolerable and breezy, and really is almost unrecognizable as the infamous Cyndi Lauper song. I still prefer Rihanna's version of "Bad Girl", but PCD's isn't that different from hers, so I can't really hate too much. I surprisingly love both Adrienne Bailon tracks, especially "Uncontrollable." The new Kat DeLuna is almost as good as "Unstoppable" (but that's hard to do!). The only song I deleted was the "Shopaholic Suite" (as it's entirely instrumental and random), but I probably will delete Macy Gray's cut soon...it's not awful...but it's not amazing. It's rare that a soundtrack is as cohesive and listenable with big artists. I could do without all of the mindless blabbering about shoes and accessories, but really, this is meant to be a fun, guilty pleasure, so why not indulge? Not since Moulin Rouge has a soundtrack really hit the theme of the film on the head.
