As the world knows, Barack Obama officially takes the office of President of the United States of America this Tuesday, January 20th. Coincidentally, it's also my first day of work. It will be an emotional day for me, for sure. This is the man I have supported since day one -- who I hoped and prayed would reach the pinnacle of political office, for our country's sake. I couldn't be more excited for our future. And considering how surprisingly weepy I was on Election Night, I can only imagine how crazy I'll be this Tuesday.
I try not to make this blog too political, and for those of who are less than thrilled with Mr. Obama, I am sorry. However, there is one upside for all of you -- The age of Obama will be ushered in by some serious heavy hitters of the music arena.
The official Inauguration of Barack Obama will be aired live on CBS on Tuesday at 10AM. Unfortunately for moi, I will be working at the time and will have to miss that nugget of history being aired live, and will have to settle for the obvious monotony of reruns of it on CNN. Comedy Central's "The Daily Show", starring Jon Stewart, will also air a special live episode on Tuesday night at 11pm. MTV recently announced that Beyonce will sing the song that will serve as the first dance of Mr. Obama and his amazing wife, Michelle as "First Couple," predictably to the tune of Etta James' gorgeous "At Last" (which I feel is very appropriate, but it would have been more amazing if they got Etta to do it herself, or play a recording of it - because no one beats Etta's version). Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Shakira, Sting, Faith Hill, Mary J. Blige, Maroon 5 and Stevie Wonder all also expected to perform at the gala.
Not to be undone, MTV will also air "Be the Change Inaugural Ball" from Washington across all of their platforms on the 20th at 10PM Eastern, featuring live coverage from Washington, New Orleans and Kenya. The celebrities has not yet been mentioned, or at least I can't find it, so if you know, let me know.
Over on HBO, "We Are One: The Obama Inauguration Celebration" will be aired on this Sunday, January 18th FOR FREE. There will be appearances by Bono, Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Sheryl Crow, Garth Brooks, Josh Groban, Usher, James Taylor, Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington -- a true testament to the gamut of people Mr. Obama can touch and inspire.
A Kids Inaugural Concert, dubbed "We Are the Future" will be broadcast live from Washington, DC on Monday, January 19th, at 8PM and will be aired live on the Disney Channel. It will be hosted Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, with performances by Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers (Obama's daughters Sasha and Malia are reportedly big fans of the brothers, and famously, when their mother stated they had a surprise for them -- the surprise being their father from a live telecast -- the girls eagerly asked, "Is it the Jonas Brothers?"), Demi Lovato & Bow Wow with appearances by Billy Ray Cyrus, Keke Palmer, Usher and, weirdest of the whole lot, Shaquille O'Neal. Yeah, the basketball guy. I don't get it either.
So, whether you voted for Mr. Obama or not, now is the time to come back together, both Republican and Democrat, and help get our nation back on the path to success that we all aspire to. "YES WE CAN!"
